Community Education & Advocacy

As the lead agency of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Napa County, we help create a unified voice for child abuse prevention efforts in Napa County in collaboration with the regional efforts of the Greater Bay Area Child Abuse Prevention Coalition.

The CAPC carries out a variety of advocacy efforts and community education activities including:

  • Community awareness campaigns about child abuse prevention
  • Promotion and coordination of the many resource agencies that work in prevention and services
  • Professional development trainings related to child abuse/neglect
  • Community conferences

In addition, CAPC partners with Napa County Child Welfare Services to deliver critical Mandated Reporter Trainings (MRTs) to agencies employing individuals that work closely with children and families. MRTs inform mandated reporters of their legal obligations to report known and suspected child abuse or neglect, what signs to look for, the process of reporting, and what happens after a report is made. Participants are given the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the child welfare system.
