Cope's December 2022 Newsletter

HELLO!

It's almost officially December — What a year it's been! With the holiday lights strung up around town and the winter festivities begun, I am reminded of how much I enjoy this time of year. The feeling of togetherness and cheer throughout the holiday season always keeps me warm during these cold months. I hope you are able to keep warm, too, by spending some quality time with your loved ones.

As we begin the final month of the year, I want to keep you updated on all of the happenings here at Cope. While we are all excitedly preparing for the winter holidays, I don't want us to forget about the Napa Valley families who still need our help this year. Every parent deserves to give their child a special holiday experience, but not every family can afford to do so this season. In this newsletter you will learn some ways you can still help struggling parents and children before the year ends.

Thank you for your continued support of Cope Family Center. I am so grateful for your dedication to giving Napa's children happier and brighter futures.

Gratefully,
Michele

Holiday Family traditions

Every parent deserves the joy of seeing their child’s face light up with excitement during the holidays, but not every family can afford to celebrate the season with gifts, meals, and other special traditions. With a rising cost of living and financial repercussions of the pandemic continuing to impact families in our community, these holiday celebrations are out of reach this year for so many families.

We are seeking donations of gift cards to help parents purchase the ingredients for holiday meals and shop for their children’s holiday gifts. These gift cards give parents the opportunity to create special holiday memories for their children that they will cherish forever.

If you want to be help parents give their children gifts of quality time, fun, laughter and memories that last a lifetime, please consider donating gift cards this holiday season, from your family to another.

mi familia, mi comunidad campaign

Cope and the members of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Napa County are launching the Mi Familia, Mi Communidad campaign to inspire Napa county residents to build a resilient community that is safe and supportive for our kids and families.

Negative childhood experiences — such as suffering abuse or living in a home with substance abuse issues — not only have an immediate impact, but can also affect long-term mental and physical health. People who have had adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have a greater risk for lifelong issues like substance abuse, mental health issues, heart disease, and cancer.

The good news is that each of us can play a part in building a healthy and resilient community for our children. ACEs are prevented — and their impact reduced — when children are connected, families are supported, and community members take positive action.

Between now and June, CAPC members will share ways to educate and get involved to reduce risk factors and promote protective factors within your own family and throughout the community.

gretel & aiden update

Last year, we shared Gretel's story and her experience with Cope's Home Visiting Program. Gretel came to us ready to give her children brighter futures after struggling with a years-long addiction. With commitment and hard work, and with the help of Cope's services, Gretel overcame her addiction, enrolled in computer training classes, and started working as a Case Manager at a local youth services organization. She also regained custody of her older children, reuniting the whole family.

Gretel and Aiden recently visited our Family Resource Center to reunite with Maria, their one-time Home Visitor. You can see some photos of their joyful reunion above.

It is with your support that we have been able to help over 80,000 families like Gretel's. If you can, consider donating to help struggling Napa Valley families before the year ends.
