Home Visiting: Cristina's Story

Home Visiting: Cristina's Story

Cristina and her family at their Home Visiting graduation last year when her son, Jesus, was 4 years old.

Cristina and her family entered Cope’s Home Visiting program when she was a young, pregnant, first-time mom. Our Home Visiting program is one of our most intensive services that supports families from pregnancy until the child enters kindergarten.

We checked in with Cristina earlier this year to see how kindergarten was for her son, Jesus. Mom was happy to report that she felt Jesus was "well-prepared for school, and that watching him learn so quickly has been so much fun!"

Although the family speaks Spanish primarily at home, they’ve had a family goal of continuing to grow their English language skills. Cristina shared that Jesus is coming home from school and reading books to his dad in English! Cristina has made new friends, too, with other school moms.

One of the primary goals of our Home Visiting program is to support the parents through the first years of their child’s life to ensure they reach their developmental milestones and set them up for success once they start school. By providing guidance and resources in those critical years, children are better prepared for academics and challenges throughout life.
